Runway Guard Lights

Runway guard lights are provided at each taxiway/runway intersection to enhance the conspicuity of the holding position for taxiways supporting runway operations during times of poor visibility. They consist of yellow unidirectional lights that are visible to the pilot of an aircraft taxiing to the holding position, but their configuration may vary.

They can consist of:

• a series of lights spaced at intervals of 3 metres across the taxiway, or;
• two pairs of lights, one on each side of the taxiway adjacent to the hold line. If this is the case, the lights in each unit illuminate alternately.
