Smoke

Smoke consists of fine ash particles suspended in the air. When smoke is present, the disc of the sun at sunrise and sunset appears very red. Smoke reduces visibility in a manner similar to haze although smoke from forest fires frequently is concentrated in layers aloft with good visibility beneath. Near industrial areas with a low level inversion, the smoke concentrates in the lower levels greatly reducing the visibility.
