Negative Static Stability

Negative static stability is the initial tendency of an object to continue away from the original state of equilibrium after being disturbed. If a bowl placed upside down and a ball balanced on the top is disturbed sufficiently for it to accelerate down the side, it will keep moving away from its original position. This is the classic example of negative static stability.
