First orient the protractor so that its north indication, coincides with true north on the map. Then, place the centre of the protractor over the midpoint of the leg which you are measuring. Ensure that the protractor is straight by using the lines of latitude (shown) or longitude as a crutch. Next, simply read off the true track as shown (157°). It is very important to ensure the protractor is centred and oriented correctly, otherwise, an accurate measurement is not possible. Repeat this for every leg in the flight plan and record it as shown.
