Determining Position Relative to a VOR

In order to determine an aircraft’s position relative to a VOR follow these steps

• Tune to the appropriate frequency
• Identify the morse code identifier
• Twist the OBS knob until the CDI needle is centres and a FROM indication is displayed

In the example below the aircraft is on radial 180 of the VOR. In other words it is south of the VOR but without more information, we do not know how far south it is.
